5 Simple tips for a great skin of a busy mom

We all want to have that amazing glowing movie star skin, but sadly very few of us are able to achieve those results. In reality the folks with that amazing glowing skin usually have a barrage of people whose job is nothing more than to make their skin look flawless.

With most moms, it is even a wonder that we have time to even wash our face with the constant, "MOOOOMMM!!!! Where's my binder??? I'm going to get an F on my science project if I can't find my binder?"

"I don't know kiddo. Where did you leave it?" We try to say this while we are brushing our teeth.

"It was sitting right there on the couch when I went to bed."

"Great! How many times have I told you to put your homework in your backpack so you are ready for the next day. You are 11 years old. You should keep better track of this stuff!” Then we usually revert to the “Ask your father if he has seen it."

"DDDAAAADDDDD!” Then in tromps your son, hair a mess and with a look of disgust on his face.!"

"MOOOMMM!! Our cat threw up in my shoes again."

"Ok, bring them here and I'll clean them out. Go get your old shoes out of the Salvation Army box. You'll have to wear those today."

"AHHHH, come on! I hate those. They have Spiderman on them. I'm not a baby anymore. I'm too big for Spiderman."

With this going on everyday it is no wonder that you never have time to take a full soothing bath, go clothes shopping that entails more than guessing if it’s the right size and throwing it in the cart, and that you have to resort to doing your makeup in the car in between stop lights.

So we are going to try to help you out by giving you 5 skin care tips to get you the best skin ever, all things considered.

1 – Never use a bar of soap or cleanser on your face that leaves your skin feeling dry

What holds a regular drug store bought bar of soap together is a binder that has an alkaline base (which is a high pH balance). This will strip all the natural oil and water out of your skin and cause the surface of your skin to dehydrate. In order for your skin cells to stay healthy, they need to stay moist. Without moisture, dry skin, acne, and sensitivity will become aggravated and worsen. When shopping for a cleanser always look for ‘sulfate-free'. This means that the commonly used detergents were removed from the formula. This should then be a safe and gentle cleanser to use on your face. Our fab Organic C*Perfect skin facial cleanser is based on saponified Organic oils that will leave your skin clean without that annoying dry feel.

2 – Be Aware of How You Sleep on Your Pillow

One of the most refreshing things you can do for your body is also known as the secondary cause of wrinkles. You sleep approximately 2,500 hours per year and during those hours you are more than likely squishing your face into your pillow the entire time. It is like ironing wrinkles into your skin. If you sleep on your back well then you are golden. Your skin is sleeping just fine. However, if you are one of the many people who sleep on their side than you may want to consider giving some thought to how you lay on your pillow at night. That is if you are someone who wants to prevent premature wrinkles on your face. If you are serious about preventing premature wrinkles on your face, you might want to consider giving some thought to how you lay on your pillow every night while you sleep. Ideally, you would want to sleep on your back. This would prevent any creases you might make in your face from the pillow.

3 – Remember to use a moisturizer daily that has a sunscreen in it and use it, 365 days a year, rain or shine.

There are studies that show that 78% of the sun exposure a person receives over their lifetime is incidental exposure. That means all that time just walking to your car, sitting in your house by the window, and even sitting in the car will you give you unnecessary sun damage from wrinkle-causing UVA rays. Sun exposure is the #1 cause of aging. In order to prevent wrinkles and skin cancer use a minimum of SPF 30 every day even during the winter time and cloudy days. Our recommendation is Sun Si’Belle Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30. It comes with a light tint, which blends well with most of skin tones and gives you a healthy glow. Remember that sun shines in the same way during winter and using sunscreen is just as important.

4 – Get enough sleep

My mother-in-law literally sleeps 3 hours a night and it is broken up in little pieces of 30-minute chunks. This is the way she has been her whole life. She doesn’t even sleep laying down. She sleeps sitting up afraid of messing up her hair. I’ve been telling her for years that it isn’t healthy for her but she comes from the old school of thinking that women stayed up late cleaning and got up early to make breakfast. However, now she is always sick.

It is no secret that a person needs enough sleep every night in order for their body to truly reap the benefits. Reports vary based on your age but generally at least 7 hours for the average person is needed. Sleep can greatly reduce the dark circles under your eyes because lack of sleep compromises your body's circulatory system.

What happens is that you end up getting stagnant blood in the vessels under the eyes because they haven't been properly drained. A person's skin who suffers from a lack of sleep tends to look pale and tired and this is because the circulation has been impaired. Lack of sleep also causes stress, which can also exacerbate skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

5 – Clean your cosmetics brushes once a week

When was the last time you cleaned your cosmetic brushes? If you think of how often they touch your face and how long you've had them you would probably be running out of the room right now to wash them. Dust and oil build up on the brushes and create a perfect environment for the bacteria, that can lead to breakouts and irritations.

It is really easy to clean them.

  • Use a mild liquid dish soap and cold water.
  • Carefully wash out your brushes and rinse them thoroughly.
  • Comb out the bristles to prevent tangling.
  • Then lay them on a clean paper towel and let them dry.
  • To clean cosmetic sponges was them with mild soap and rinse thoroughly after each use.

We hope that these tips help you and your skin. Your skin is the first thing everyone sees on you and it’s the first thing that shows age. So take care of it well and it should represent you well for years to come.
