Weirdest Beauty Treatments
We have all seen or heard of a beauty treatment that had us stop and say “What the? They are kidding, right?” However, women (and even men) are obsessed about looking young for as long as possible. We are inundated with photos of Hollywood women who are the same age or older than us who look impossibly young. We are usually dumbfounded on how they do it. We gravitate to anything that give us a shred of a promise of youthful beauty, but we overlook some of the easiest things we could do to prevent aging like covering up in the sun and using products with sunscreen.
However, there are some beauty treatments out there that are truly bizarre. We do not make any claims that they do or do not work we are just saying “Wow this is crazy.” We welcome you to share your experiences with these treatments or let us know your thoughts.
The Vampire Facial
Like so many other things that she has brought attention to Kim Kardashian also brought attention to The Vampire Facial. This facial is a variation of the Dermapen treatment and includes the use of platelet-rick plasma, which is taken from the patient’s own blood. After a typical facial treatment your face is attacked with the Dermapen for about 15 minutes. Even though on Kim Kardashian’s show she made it seem like it was horrible others have said it isn’t painful at all, but you do get bloody.
Bird Poop Facials
This isn’t a fad this has been around for centuries. In ancient Japan, Kabuki actors and geishas used nightingale droppings to get a porcelain-like complexion and remove their makeup. Now people like Tom Cruise and Victoria Beckham are paying $180 and more to get a nightingale droppings mixed with other ingredients smeared on their faces.
Thai Face Slap Massage
For 200 pounds and 15 minutes a beauty therapist will proceed to slap you in the face. Of course they are also doing some kneading and massaging of the area, but slapping is the real treat. The claim is that slapping improves circulation, gets rid of wrinkles, shrinks pores, tightens skin and provides a healthy flush. Of course it could be that you also just slapped my face and its red and slightly swollen so my wrinkles are going to looked reduced and my skin will look tighter, but that’s just my observation.
In this same realm is the Bottom Punching and Breast Slapping. These procedures claim to shift excess fat from one area to another and come from Thailand. It is virtually the same thing as above except on your rump and breasts
Tittooing
Is this considered a beauty treatment? I am not quite sure, but it is definitely bizarre in my book. The tattoo craze has been ramping up from bikers and sailors to the more mainstream since the 1960s. Tattooing has been around in the world for a very long time, but in mainstream American it really starts to show up in the early 19th century. During the American Revolution sailors started getting tattoos in order to have something distinct noted about them on their Seaman’s Protection Certificate which protected them from imprisonment by the Royal Navy. In 1898 over 80% of the US Navy were tattooed.
As a society we have grown from tattooing being taboo to being a recognized art form. Now though a new fad is for woman to take the permanent makeup tattoo one step further. Tittooing rage has been taking over the UK. It is the process of women getting their nipples darkened and defined. Local anesthesia is administered and then a color complimentary to the patient’s skin tone is added. About every year to a year and a half a follow up is needed.
Fire Treatment
Do you have a fear of fire or of being burned alive? Then this would definitely not be the treatment for you! In China this treatment is growing in popularity. It is part of a treatment called Huo Liao. A towel soaked in alcohol and a special ‘elixir’ is placed over your problem areas. Such as your face, legs, back, stomach and then they light it on fire. After a few seconds they quickly extinguish it before the heat become unbearable.
The claim is that it stimulates skin, reduces dullness, and sagging wrinkles. Some “experts” in China claim that it cures the common cold. I don’t know. In order to take the leap to light myself on fire it would have to cure something much more dangerous or uncomfortable than the common cold.
Tapeworm Diet
This is a diet that has been around since the 1900s and is still around today. However, you will have to travel over to Mexico and pay 900 pounds for it. A patient has to swallow a beef tapeworm cyst, typically in the form of a pill. Hopefully the parasite makes its way into the intestines and absorb food. Once the patient reaches their ideal weight, they then take an anti-parasitic pill and expel the dead tapeworm.
This diet is definitely on the list of extreme weight loss options due to its possible complications like abdominal and rectal problems, meningitis, dementia and that is just mentioning a few.
Bull Semen Hair Conditioner
No this isn’t something we just made up it is actually a real beauty treatment. A salon in Knightsbridge, London offers their client’s organically-produced bull’s semen conditioner. Of course it is combined with other ingredients like Katera root. The shop says that as long as the bulls continue to perform they will continue to offer this treatment. It costs $85 for 1 treatment.
Hot Buttered Lady Parts
In Ethiopian salons many post-pregnancy women go to the salon for this treatment. Women are given a 45 minute massage from head to toe. They use butter as the massage medium. It is applied everywhere, from head to toe. Your hands and feet are then covered with plastic bags while you are also handed a large piece of butter to smear all over your lady parts.
In a separate room there is a long row of toilets with smoke holes. You sit over the toilet with your legs as far apart as possible. Three heavy blankets are thrown over you so that no smoke escapes and you stay that way until all the butter melts off of your lower region. The belief is that this beauty treatment tightens up the vaginal muscles post-pregnancy, in addition to making you feel like a big steamed turkey.
There are many beauty treatments out on the market in many different countries. Just because it has become a fad doesn’t mean that it does or does not work. The best defense against bad skin care is a good offense. Do your research and follow the very basic guidelines.
o Avoiding strong soaps.
o Shave carefully.
o Pat dry.
o Moisturize dry skin (use one with an SPF in it)
We hope we gave you a few “Holy Moly” moments.
